Great things to do in Bream Bay

The town of Waipu is world renowned for its rich history, colourful people and hosts many exciting events during the year, with the highlights being the Highland Games and Art ‘n’ Tartan.
Bream bay is well known for its beautiful safe sandy beaches, including New Zealand’s most famous clothing optional beach, Uretiti. Waipu cove is renowned in the area for great surfing. Close by, the Waipu river estuary is a kayaker’s delight with good opportunities for fishing or to watch the nesting ground of the endangered fairy terns and banded dotterels.

If you want a change from the beach the Waipu Museum has been voted “New Zealand’s best small museum” and tells the fascinating story of “the great Scottish migration” to Waipu via Nova Scotia. Enjoy a bush walk to Piroa Falls with a great swimming hole and there is also the famous Waipu caves to explore.

Then at the end of the day come back to the atmosphere of the restaurants in town including the world famous Pizza Barn, or just relax in your comfortable 4 bedroom accommodation, with maybe a BBQ on the deck.
